Last Sunday, March 22nd, Fundación La Tortuga, Inparques and Maru Marine Tours with a group of volunteers, celebrated the 6th Edition of the Underwater Cleanup in Mochima National Park in the framework of World Water Day.

With a total of 5 bags and 2 sacks of waste, those present completed a day of sanitation during a day full of sun, good weather and the crystal clear waters of La Borracha and Puinarito.

Thanks to the support of Inparques Anzoátegui, the day ended perfectly with the removal of the accumulated garbage to dry land.

The sanitation activities, more than cleaning up, serve as a wake-up call, especially for the people who participate, because they realize the amount of waste and objects of certain value that accumulate in the sand, bushes and seabed. Many times the participants discover what they call "treasures" because even jewels are found.

At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed a nice beach in a beautiful national park like Mochima. The only negative comments centered around some late visitors, who arrived to disturb the peace that the families present there had had all day: they brought down from their boat a big horn, a sound system and an electric plant. To the sound of their favorite music, they interrupted the conversations of the people present, without anyone being able to do anything about it and completely violating the park’s rules of use.

Once again we call on the whole community: our rights end where the rights of others begin. Let us work towards a good coexistence and enjoy our beautiful natural sites, while respecting nature’s right to its silence and eternal beauty.

We are part of nature, not its owners.
