At the headquarters of La Tortuga Foundation there is a sample of ceramic and stoneware pieces from our historical past, for the delight of young and old alike.
This sample exists thanks to the work of the anthropologist Ana Cristina Rodríguez Yilo, who for the year 2004 and for about three months, embarked on this adventure of making these pieces that were part of the daily life of the Venezuelan of the XVIII century flourish...
In excavations carried out in the land behind the Cathedral of Barcelona (Anzoátegui State), a series of utilitarian pieces belonging to several countries that lived and traded with that Venezuela, appeared almost surprisingly, since a cemetery had been functioning in that land.
When the cemetery was removed from the center of the city, the "Central" movie theater was established for a long time. Once this establishment was closed, the construction of a theater was also planned, but it was not built and the Casa del Ciego (House of the Blind) is currently located there.
Just at the moment of construction between the projected theater and the Casa del Ciego, this anthropologist graduated from the Central University of Venezuela and with more than 20 years of experience, requested to make excavations with the help of the Institute of Cultural Heritage and the Mayor’s Office of the Municipality Bolivar. A number of whole pieces, some of them whole, others broken, of refined French, Spanish, Chinese, and a rich sample of English ceramics, "Davenport" brand, were found. Of the Dutch ceramics, stoneware bottles were found where olive oil was stored.
This exhibition will be on display until the end of April and then will be traveling to several hotels in Anzoátegui interested in bringing culture and history to their guests and visitors.
Fundación La Tortuga invites everyone interested in learning more about our rich culture to visit its headquarters and enjoy this collection, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
