Fundación La Tortuga, in its struggle for the conservation of nature and preservation of marine spaces, joined the UN representing Venezuela, and together with groups around the world, seeks to give value to the importance of safeguarding the variety of species on earth.

The United Nations proclaimed 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity, and people around the world are working to protect the planet’s irreplaceable natural wealth and reduce biodiversity loss. This is vital for both current and future human well-being.

We all depend on the diversity of life for food, fuel, medicines, and other products that help us live. But, as many of us know, biodiversity is being lost at an accelerating rate due to human impact. This impoverishes us all and weakens the capacity of the life systems on which we depend.

The International Year of Biodiversity is a unique opportunity to increase understanding of the vital role played by the plurality of species of all kinds in sustaining life on the planet.
