The Anzoátegui Early Warning Network, RAO Anzoátegui, was activated again after receiving a call from locals of Manare beach in Mochima National Park who reported to Inparques the birth of these marine reptiles on this beautiful beach in eastern Venezuela.
A total of 59 baby turtles belonging to the loggerhead species (Caretta caretta) hatched in the last days of September and were reported to the park ranger authorities in the area, who took care of them while Fundación La Tortuga arrived on site to confirm the species, their number and other necessary data.
The loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) is one of the 5 species that can be found on our coasts when they come to lay their eggs or feed and like the other species is threatened and with little chance of survival if we do not become aware of our ecological footprint, which is increasingly negative and destructive to the environment.
In the presence of Park Rangers Rosibel Rodríguez and Yomer Ruiz, the turtles were checked by the specialist Ángela Arias (FLT) and once the information was gathered, they were released so as not to interfere with their natural development. The occasion was used to give several of the RAO volunteers and Park Rangers the opportunity to be close to these little animals and put into practice the knowledge imparted in the Training Workshops.
