Lechería - Last Thursday night, November 12, Fundación La Tortuga presented at its headquarters its latest initiative: Ambientarrrt, an attractive proposal that combines fashion and ecology, by the hand of designers highly sensitized to the environmental problems facing the planet.
Another way of carrying the ecological message was evident when 15 models from Gerardo Mudarra Model Agency, exhibited the latest creations of designers Sharon Waale, Yadersy Wetter and Robert Bracho, national talent who, inspired by solid waste as a resource to create garments that promote conservation, offered their innovative proposal and captivated the audience with their high creativity.
The evening began with an invitation from the event’s announcer and host, Clerys Tineo, to a theatrical performance alluding to the contamination of marine spaces and how the aquatic fauna is being impacted. Afterwards, Gaizkale Garay, La Tortuga’s education coordinator, spoke briefly about how man, with simple actions, can mitigate his impact on the environment. Then began the parade composed of Sharon Waale’s casual designs, inspired by Mother Earth and adorned with applications of bottle caps that, after a careful procedure, have obtained the appearance of turtle shells. These fresh garments were accompanied by accessories, bags and purses designed by Yadersy Wetter. Her items, made from natural fibers, were similarly inspired by the sea turtle. Finally, Robert Bracho’s avant-garde designs filled the runway. His eye-catching creations made from paper and unused plastic were key to the conservationist message he was trying to spread. An unconventional wedding dress marked the end of the day.
Chelo Nogueira, vice-president of the institution, pointed out that Ambientarrrt is a manifestation of recycling on the catwalks to motivate the sustainable use of natural resources. The significance of the three R’s in the name of the project is due to the fact that the initiative is framed within the principles of the 3R’s of ecology: reduce, reuse and recycle. In this way, and using clothes as a means of communication, Fundación La Tortuga invites everyone to put into practice good environmental habits and defend ecosystems.
A Thought for the Planet
The activity was also an opportunity to kick off a new campaign of Fundación La Tortuga, which consists of collecting a Thought for the Planet. To do so, each person had to deposit a positive message for the Earth in a container and thus promote the construction of a greener and more balanced world. These motivating words can continue to be received at the Foundation’s headquarters for the next six months.
