La Tortuga Foundation and its role in Education
One of the objectives of La Tortuga Foundation is the development of non-formal education projects. The idea is to bring an environmental message to all possible spaces and at all levels. The evidence of this commitment is highlighted by the realization of educational-training workshops, as well as other activities in the foundation and in the communities. All of these activities are aimed at generating environmental awareness among citizens.

Additionally, in agreement or alliance with educational institutions in the state of Anzoátegui, the foundation provides support to students from different areas of knowledge to carry out their professional internships and/or community services, associated with some of the ongoing projects.
Such is the case of Johancy Angélica Jiménez Pernía, an English student of the INSTITUTO UNIVERSITARIO DE TECNOLOGÍA SUPERIOR DE ORIENTE (IUTSO) who carried out as an internship the translation of different outreach products related to the research on marine debris and microplastics, among which are summaries for congresses, infographics, videos, introductions for books and scientific articles, among others. This activity was developed with the direct support of Dr. Adriana Gamboa, a research partner of Fundación la Tortuga and a specialist in the area.
In addition to focusing on translation, Johancy had the opportunity to actively participate in the beach cleanup days and in the demonstration of coastal sediment collection for the analysis of microplastics, which allowed her to connect with the research topic and understand the need to disseminate information on the subject inside and outside our country.
In this way, the role of La Tortuga Foundation in the education of the country is highlighted once again.
