Last Monday, October 14, La Tortuga Foundation attended a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of People’s Power for the Environment with other organizations of the state of Anzoátegui that make up the State Environmental Education Collective, in order to join this work for the environment.
Regarding the collective, the head of the Environmental Education Program of Minamb in Anzoátegui, Arelys Silva, specified that currently, all the organizations are socializing information on the activities they develop in relation to the environmental issue.
Silva pointed out that the intention is to unify criteria and consolidate a joint action plan to sensitize a greater number of Anzoateguians on the importance of taking care of the environment and natural resources.
Fundación La Tortuga had the opportunity to present its Environmental Education Project where the objective is to get people to migrate towards more nature-friendly habits. This Educational Project is based on two divisions: the scientific and Ambientarrrt.
Ambientarrrt is a non-formal education program that bases its work on showing the message of conservation through artistic manifestations and thus reaching all audiences.
The meeting began with the presentation of the program of the Anzoátegui Timely Warning Network (RAO Anzoátegui) by Professor Gaizkale Garay, representing La Tortuga Foundation.
After the presentation of the program, the participants: DPD-Governance, CORANZTUR, Educational Zone, Ministry of PP for the Environment, and La Tortuga Foundation, carried out a series of agreements, which are mentioned below:
The Education Directorate of the State Executive committed to supporting Fundación La Tortuga in the environmental education work concerning the RAO program, in the educational institutions located in the coastal area, from Valle Seco in the Guanta municipality to Boca de Uchire in the Capistrano municipality, with the purpose of sensitizing the population.
It was proposed that a schedule of visits be prepared by the Directorate of Education, which will be delivered to Fundación La Tortuga for consultation.
The Ministry of the Environment, through the Environmental Education Division, proposed that Fundación La Tortuga join the environmental education group, as a result of a strategic alliance between the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Popular Power for Education.
The Planning Directorate proposed the incorporation of the Government’s Culture Directorate for the dissemination of the awareness-raising material, in order to include the micro-educational program in the movie theaters carried out by this agency.
In agreement, La Tortuga Foundation committed to delivering the material (video) for its diffusion.
RAO Anzoátegui’s scientific division bases its work on researching sea turtle populations in the state and also complements it with an educational project that seeks to disseminate as much information as possible to schools, universities, companies, coastal residents, and tourism operators in order to conserve and protect these endangered reptiles. This educational project had been previously presented to the authorities of the Department of Planning and Development, Education and Environment at the State Government Headquarters and was received with great enthusiasm by those present.
