Sea turtles return to the area where they were born
During the month of July, RAO Anzoátegui carried out its usual tours identifying the activity of sea turtles in the state of Anzoátegui, and was able to confirm the presence of Hawksbill and Green turtle nests.

Sea turtles are reptiles that have inhabited our planet for millions of years and among the curious facts about their life cycle is that they return to their birth zones when it is their turn to lay their eggs. Sea turtles reach sexual maturity late (between 15 to 30 years of age) and when the reproductive cycle begins something makes them return to the area or beach where they were born years ago. There are several theories that try to explain this behavior but it is still not known for sure why.
The consequence of this characteristic is that when man intervenes by capturing them for trade or consumption, the natural balance of their population is broken and causes part of the current problems, such as the fact that all species of sea turtles are threatened and in danger of extinction.
One of the species that is in the worst situation (critically endangered according to the IUCN) is the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) since it has been persecuted for its shell from which, for a long time, jewelry and utilitarian articles such as eyeglass frames, combs, fans and even spurs for fighting cocks have been manufactured, an event that is totally repudiatory in itself. It is inadmissible to kill a turtle just for the sake of removing its shell to "beautify" or "play and gamble" since these animals have a very low natural survival rate, since only one out of every 1000 turtles reaches adulthood.
For this reason, it is very important for Fundación La Tortuga to carry out its RAO Anzoátegui project since through this work, information and training is provided free of charge to all those who wish to receive it. The purpose is to raise theturtlefoundation awareness to help this part of the marine fauna to remain present in the seas of the world and we can continue to enjoy it on our coasts.
We invite all those schools and community councils that want their members to connect with environmental conservation to contact us. It is also an attractive project for companies because through it they can fulfill their CSR.
