Microplastics on the beaches of Lechería

On March 10, 2022, we welcomed the UPTOS-Clodosbaldo Russián Applied Geochemistry Research Group from Cumaná, Sucre state, allies of La Tortuga Foundation. These professionals have been developing scientific research on the content of plastic garbage and microplastics on beaches in the state of Sucre since 2018, being one of the pioneers in developing studies on this subject in the country.

On March 10, 2022, we welcomed the UPTOS-Clodosbaldo Russián Applied Geochemistry Research Group from Cumaná, Sucre state, allies of La Tortuga Foundation. These professionals have been developing scientific research on the content of plastic garbage and microplastics on beaches in the state of Sucre since 2018, being one of the pioneers in developing studies on this subject in the country.


In its first visits (between August and October 2021), information was collected on the content of these emerging pollutants on four beaches in Lechería (Playa Mansa, Playa Cangrejo, Playa Lido, Playa Los Canales) and, in this opportunity, the same area is being approached to make temporal comparisons.


The Foundation’s doors are open to hosting this type of activity in favor of science, education, and environmental conservation. It is necessary that as inhabitants of the coastal zone we are informed about this global environmental problem. Only in this way can we make changes and apply actions to improve the situation.


At this time, the members of this research group are carrying out the processing of the samples and the presentation is being coordinated, a talk to theturtlefoundationize general information regarding microplastics in the marine environment and show some of the findings that until now they have.
