Since April, RAO Anzoátegui has received reports of sea turtle strandings on the beaches of Boca de Uchire from different volunteers. Thanks to the actions of Civil Protection officials, locals, and tourists, we have been able to gather information on the presence of these reptiles, but without life.

All of these reports were of strandings of Cardón turtles, the largest and some of them in an advanced state of decomposition. In the reports that were received, it was not possible to determine the cause of death, however, the Cardon turtle is a species that has a very large migration pattern, it swims many kilometers to lay its eggs and on many occasions this wear and tear is too much for them, causing their death.

The most important thing for the team of La Tortuga Foundation is the number of volunteers who want to collaborate with the project, which basically seeks to multiply the information that helps the conservation and protection of this marine fauna.

One of the ways in which the RAO achieves its objective is by visiting schools to share talks and videos about these species with teachers and students. Once again we visited the UE Dr. José Antonio Ramos Sucre to cover the 1st stage of basic education (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades) with the dramatization on the imaginary beach, where the children find a turtle and a group of little turtles that they have to respect and protect. The team also had the opportunity to visit the Nucleus of the Universidad de Oriente and shared a talk on this topic with a group of about 30 students.

Field trips were not left out, and in addition to finding new nesting reports, the team had the opportunity to meet with coastal residents to share experiences and lessons learned.
