From Friday June 20th to Tuesday June 24th La Tortuga Foundation shared its most recent advances and upcoming projects at the eighth edition of Exponáutica, a showcase of maritime innovations and productive alliances that each year brings together more than 50 commercial companies and other institutions linked to the nautical sector.
Thanks to the courtesy of Expomorro, La Tortuga Foundation was present during the five days of the event, strengthening the link with those who share the taste for aquatic spaces, establishing alliances in favor of the marine-coastal environment of the country, and exposing the scientific and environmental initiatives undertaken in La Tortuga Island and the Isletas de Píritu, as well as the next projects to be carried out in the Mochima National Park, El Morro Hill and the canals of the El Morro Tourist Complex.
One of the aspects that most attracted the attention of visitors to the stand was the used battery collector set up for people to deposit their used batteries. This initiative, called Pilas para tu Vida (Batteries for your Life), consists of a program for the collection of used batteries that will soon begin in the city of Lechería with the aim of mitigating the negative impact that batteries have on the environment when they are improperly disposed of, and to raise awareness among the population about this environmentally important issue.
The occasion also served to launch the foundation’s line of bags with images of La Tortuga Island and its species by photographer José Voglar. These practical and safe accessories can be used to transport items on the beach or in the city and will soon be available in several stores throughout the country.
The event organized every year by Expomorro was held in the open spaces of the Plaza Mayor shopping center in Lechería, where 3,500 mt2 of land area and 200 m of dock served to exhibit the most comfortable and luxurious boats from 21 feet, engines, spare parts, nautical accessories, sports and aquatic equipment, clothing, gastronomy and architectural developments related to the area.
The opening words of the event were given by Silvia López-Pando, director of the organizing company, who in the presence of the Vinotinto soccer player, José Manuel Rey and the outstanding sailor Víctor Díaz de León, cut the inaugural ribbon.
Some of the companies present were Yanmarine Corporation, Abaco Suministros Marinos, Artemisa Yachts, Acadia Outdoors, Yamaha Marine Diesel Distributor, Lanchas Barracuda Marine, Lanchas Extreme Marine, Commander Boats, Maritime Elecronics Technologies, Muebles Externi/Tropitone, Nautica Evc Caraballeda, Avior Airlines and its Descubra Magazine, Orion Lights, Rich Group, Rumbo Marino, ProTienda, Sea Shop-Ropa de Pesca and Fundación La Tortuga, among others.
