Sea turtles have been part of the existing fauna in the subtropical and tropical seas of the planet for millions of years and one of the most striking aspects of their life cycle is to return to the area where they were born. But this would not be remarkable if we did not take into account that they reach sexual maturity at around 25-30 years of age.
During field trips in the Isletas de Píritu by the RAO Anzoátegui team, the remains of an adult Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) were found approximately one and a half years dead.

Eco-Recreo La Tortuga, Fundación La Tortuga’s vacation plan, ended its two weeks of activity with a play about Mother Nature and the Rainbow. This event was held from August 6 to 17, as has been the custom for the past two years, and all children were invited to enjoy a series of activities that seek to reinforce the values of respect for the environment, responsibility for daily actions, and healthy recreation.
Last Friday, July 13, the children of the 2nd grade of UE Francisco Lazo Martí culminated their school term with a very enriching outing. They started with a guided visit to the Dimitrios Demu Museum, where they were able to walk through the fantastic world that this exemplary artist built in our city, receiving all the interesting information from the museum staff about his life and work. Then they went to the headquarters of La Tortuga Foundation where they were welcomed by the staff of Rao Anzoátegui to learn about the wonderful world of sea turtles.
During the month of July, RAO Anzoátegui carried out its usual tours identifying the activity of sea turtles in the state of Anzoátegui, and was able to confirm the presence of Hawksbill and Green turtle nests.
